The Wee Caravan Park | Ayrshire

Away to Ayrshire for hiking-ready countryside, lochs, clear skies – and exotic neighbours?

Then pack your bags for a stay at The Wee Caravan Park, a quiet dog-friendly site in the Ayrshire countryside, where you’ll be sharing your space with a friendly herd of alpacas. From this spot just outside New Cumnock, you’ll be well based to break into Burns country, with Ayr beach 40 minutes’ drive away and Loch Bradan 45 minutes’ drive away. The South West 300 route is also a short drive away.

Where will you be settling down? Well, the pitches are part of an area of land fenced off from Laneburn, with your woolly neighbours in the adjacent field and alpaca trekking and meet-and-greet activities available on site. Fresh water is provided and logs and kindling are available upon request; both barbecues and firepits are allowed.

Dogs (on a lead) are welcome, and children too – so you won’t need to leave anyone behind. And it should be easy to fill your time with activities for all: there are lots of top spots for a picnic on site, hilly footpaths nearby and a free metal detector is available for budding treasure hunters.

While things are peaceful around the site, there’s a little buzz down in New Cumnock. The town, five minutes’ drive away, has a food shop, Chinese and Indian takeaways (deliveries available to the site), a chemist, petrol station, outdoor swimming pool and bakery, so you won’t have too hard a task finding your essentials.

This is a truly tranquil site with level pitches, fire pits and a running burn trickling in the background. There is a field of alpacas right next to the campsite. The hosts are very friendly and helpful and the location is easy to find. There is no toilet, but we took our portable toilet and it was no problem. Beautiful spot out in nature. We had a lovely fire in the evening – the host even squeezed in some marshmallows with the logs for us! Great place. We will return.

Craig and Kerrie the owners were fantastic – checked on us every day, gave us suggestions for things to do locally, introduced us to the Alpacas (and other animals). Quiet peaceful location and fantastic scenery. Flat ground pitches. Clean and tidy. Picnic benches. Fire pits. Local shops (some delivering to site). Kid and dog friendly. Lots of things to see and do locally.

We had an amazing stay here, first time campers and our daughter loved every minute of it. We didn’t think she’d last as a 9 year old but the site is so peaceful and the animals help a lot to keep kids occupied. Craig was amazing and can’t do enough for you. Didn’t really have the chance to meet Kerry as she was busy shearing the Alpacas, who decided to escape at night because they didn’t want to be sheared haha!

Lovely little site, owned and run by the most friendly couple, Craig and Kerry. We stayed just one night, had very heavy rain and high winds, but waking up to alpacas looking across the fence whilst we eat breakfast was perfect. Yes we did get stuck in the mud. Not a problem for Craig and his trusty tractor though. We then spent a lovely time with Kerry and Craig letting us feed their alpacas and Kerry showing us her workshop and how she turned the alpaca fleeces into lovely blankets, hats and all manner of things. We even had fresh free range eggs to sample, thank you for making our visit so memorable.

This was an amazing site we loved our stay here Craig and Kerry couldn’t do enough for you Craig got us firewood from the local shop and the granddaughter loved feeding the alpacas and seeing new born lambs we even got freshly laid eggs one morning from Craig they were the best eggs we’ve ever tasted I would recommend this site to anyone wanting a quiet peaceful time out Can’t wait to go back.
